Cathy's Notes :
I purchase large quantities of roasts when on sale. You can season and foil wrap them, then put them into freezer bags, label, and freeze. The foil-wrapped, frozen roast can go right into the slow cooker, but you MUST use the LOW setting for the longer period of time.

  1. can i do this in an oven bag and slow cook in oven.
if so…should i brown the meat first and do i have to add liquid.
    want a browned roast..not a stewed one
will be using brisket and cook low and very slow.
what i want to achieve is a melt in the mouth roast done in an oven.all the extras..veges etc i do separately.
    would love your comments
    thankyou

Followed beef recipe, but rested beef on 1cm thick slices of onion prior to wrapping. Absolutely fantastic result, with great juices for gravy! This is the best recipe ever. Thanks very much.

  3. I am trying this today ….. It looks yummy! I’m adding my veggies right in 28th the meat….I hope it turns out ok this way!!!!!

  4. I just cooked a 5 pound choice beef roast in foil; cooked in crockpot on low for 5 hours can be cut with a fork. In fact, next time i will cook 40 minutes per pound on low. No crockpot clean up and no liner. Just double wrapped foil directly into cold crockpot.

I’ve cooked all grades of pot roast in foil in crockpot on low. I will never waste money on lesser grade than chuck.

    1. Hi Doriana, it doesn’t matter about which side. The foil is just to keep the meat moist and covered in the slow cooker. Hope that helps!
