Chocolate Spice Balls are a family favourite at JoJo's house. Every time there's a wedding or a family gathering, then these tasty little treats get made! They're also great during the holiday season, given the wonderful spices that are added for that extra festive taste.

Approx 5 dozen.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour (amount may vary) leave 2 cups out and add as needed
  • cocoa
  • sugar
  • salt
  • baking powder
  • cinnamon
  • cloves
  • all spice
  • crisco
  • eggs
  • milk
  • grape jelly
  • vanilla
  • orange, squeeze juice
  • (optional: finely chopped nuts)

Instructions

1. Mix and set dry ingredients aside. Cream crisco and sugar well, add eggs one at a time. Add jam, nuts, and juice, gradually add dry ingredients.

2. Roll into balls (about the size of a large gumball) and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Do not over bake. Cool and frost. as you like.

Additional Options

You can frost with a mixture of powdered sugar and water, thin enough to dip cookie in, and sprinkle if desired.
JoJo's Tip: If you add 1 Tablespoon of flour to the frosting mix it will make it shiny.
