You will need

a 9 x 13 greased pan Or a crockpot

Ingredients

20 oz Can Apple Pie Filling
16 oz Box Angel Food Cake Mix (DRY)
Sugar to your taste
Cinnamon to your taste

*****If you would like to use another pie filling, just swap the apple for the same amount and it will work nicely. Here's our Blueberry Dump Cake version. So delicious!

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 F / 180 C / Gas 4.

2. Mix the first 2 ingredients together and pour into your greased cake pan.

3. Sprinkle with Sugar and Cinnamon if you wish.

4. Bake for 20 – 30 minutes when browned. It should be a little soft inside and not completely set.
Serve with some delicious ice cream or whipped cream.

For the slow cooker

Another of our Lovefoodies friends, Jean Wiggins has suggestions for cooking this in the crock pot:
"You can do it in your Crock-Pot too. Just don't mix the filling and cake mix together. Pie filling on the bottom of a well-buttered crockpot, then sprinkle the cake mix on top of that and dot with butter. No need for sugar in this one as it is very sweet on its own.
Cook times are approximate, as a guide for the crockpot cooking:
4-6 hrs LOW or 1 ½ - 2 ½ hrs HIGH"

  1. I was really excited to try this recipe. When I mixed it up it didn’t even look like a cake mix. It looked more like whipped cream with apple chunks in it. I think I needed to use a bigger pan though because it puffed up like meringue and overflowed. Unfortunately my daughter and I don’t like it at all. My husband liked it enough that he says he will finish eating it. I would still say if you want to try do so. Maybe it just wasn’t the right recipe for my family.

  2. I’ve anxious to try the apple version! I’ve made a pineapple dump cake with the angel food cake mix and a 16 oz. can of crushed pineapple with the juice. It comes out fluffy and so moist and delicious. It’s a great diabetic recipe as well.

I think I am missing something..is this cake mix prepared? Or do you mix them together with the dry angel food cake mix? I am dying to try this with cherry pie filling…

  4. I made this today and it was a hit. I added a bit of the cinnamon and sugar with the apple filling because it seemed a bit bland. It came out great! Thanks for a super easy recipe!!!!

      1. great to hear someone else has tried as well… I already have the ingredients and don’t want to use the oven. Crockpot is the way to go.
